Complete Pro Tools Courses While Studying at MAINZ
MAINZ is accredited as a Digidesign Certified Training Location to teach courses in Pro Tools. This means that full time Audio students can gain an internationally recognised audio qualification in Pro Tools during the year and only have to pay for the text book.
Pro Tools Short Courses are also available to the general public. See the options under Short Courses.
Certificate in Audio Engineering and Music Production
The Certificate in Audio Engineering and Music Production introduces students to the world of audio from a studio and computer recording perspective. During the year, students gain a solid foundation in the theory and practice of recording and mixing music.
Certificate graduates will have developed the skills necessary to run a project studio or to find an entry point into the music industry. The year also provides excellent preparation for the following Diploma year (year 2), and is generally considered the prerequisite.
The 34-week programme consists of 10 hours of theory and 12 hours of scheduled practical time each week. Students are also able to use the MAINZ studios and MIDI suites for self directed learning.

Entry Requirements
Preference will be given to applicants who have achieved credits in English, Maths, Physics and Music at NCEA Level 2 and/or some relevant industry experience indicating reliability and motivation. Entry requirements and selection criteria apply.
The Diploma programme is designed as a direct follow-on from, and expands considerably on skills established during the Certificate year. Audio and music skills are fine-tuned to a commercially viable level and applied to the quality production of different musical genres.
These can range from rock to electronica and choral to full symphony orchestra performances. The Diploma programme also adds considerable breadth to students’ audio experiences by delivering a range of new subjects, many of which are computer-based.
Diploma students have the option to purchase their own laptop and take advantage of the wireless network that operates in the MAINZ campus. This can be used to build a portfolio of valuable resources to take with them when they graduate.
