Contemporary music at MAINZ is the study of popular music with a particular emphasis on live performance. Students form bands and are trained to perform in eight different styles during the year. There is a strong emphasis on preparing students for the entertainment industry by tutors who are ‘real world’ musicians and regular guest lecturers who are well known figures from the industry.
The Certificate is a 34-week programme consisting of regular band rehearsals, 13 hours per week of class-room tuition and practical tutorials covering music theory, composition, arranging, the music industry, music technology and general musical knowledge. Facilities include rehearsal rooms, a MIDI Suite, and vocal and practice rooms. Music students also have access to the Audio Department recording studios.
